Veres joins Revs

If major league experience is the litmus test of a strong pitching staff in the Atlantic League, the York Revolution are headed in the right direction.

The Revs added right-hander Dave Veres over the weekend — giving York four pitchers with major league experience. Veres, 41, spent time with Houston, Montreal, St. Louis, Colorado and the Chicago Cubs in his 10-year major league career. He posted a 3.44 ERA in 694 innings — impressive numbers in the midst of baseball’s steroid era.

And it’s clear the Alabama native isn’t coming back for the money. According to baseballreference.com, Veres earned almost $13 million in his major league career

He joins Wayne Franklin, Corey Thurman and Aaron Myette among the Revs’ arms with major league experience.

“He has a substantial 10 to 12 years in the majors and he’s definitely a guy who can come in and help us out,” Revolution manager Chris Hoiles said recently.

York also officially signed outfielder Travis Ezi over the weekend. Hoiles announced Ezi’s signing at the Revs’ Hot Stove Banquet a few weeks back, so that addition came as no surprise. Ezi is expected to man center field and hit leadoff for York in 2008. His career numbers are here.
