Revs re-acquire Olson

One of the most competitive pitchers to take the hill for the York Revolution last season is returning.

olson.jpgReliever Jason Olson re-signed with the club on Wednesday, giving York 17 players on its 2008 roster with about three weeks to go before spring training.

Olson was a media favorite (alright, one of my favorites) last year for his candid comments after games regarding the Revolution’s clubhouse — or lack of a clubhouse — situation. He was also an underrated reliever for most of the season.

The 29-year-old went 6-5 with a 4.03 ERA in 42 appearances. He was one of the few players to make it through the entire season on the York roster. He did tail off toward the end of  2007, however. After excellent ERAs in June (0.69) and July (2.29) the Scottsdale, Ariz., native had a 5.63 ERA in August and September. Check out the rest of his stats from last season here.

Olson is capable of making a spot start here and there. He also brings superb shotgun skills to the Revs’ relief core. Yes that kind of shotgun. Olson was one of York’s most avid hunters during the Revs’ inaugural season, along with Steve Smyth.

The Revolution’s bullpen now looks like this: Wayne Franklin, Reid Price, Dave Veres and Olson. I hope to get in touch with Olson later this afternoon.
